Circuit Lab is a Pro simulation

Pro opens all 125 virtual labs — 483 simulations with guides and quizzes.

How to use it

  1. 1Drag a part from the toolbox onto the board; drag its ends onto other ends to connect.
  2. 2Tap a part to change its value, flip a switch, or delete it.
  3. 3Drop the voltmeter probes on two points, or read the current on any wire.
  4. 4Load a ready circuit: series, parallel, RC, RLC.

What to notice

  • Series parts share the current; parallel branches share the voltage.
  • At every junction, current in = current out (Kirchhoff's first law).
  • A capacitor charges with time constant RC; an inductor resists change in current.
  • In an RLC circuit current peaks at f₀ = 1/(2π√LC).

About the Circuit Lab simulation

A circuit is a closed loop through which charge flows. In series, the same current passes through every component and the voltages add up; in parallel, every branch gets the same voltage and the currents add up. Kirchhoff's two laws — currents into a junction equal currents out, and voltages round a loop add to zero — solve any circuit.

In this circuit lab you build circuits from batteries, resistors, bulbs, switches, capacitors and inductors, read currents and voltages with meters, and load ready-made series, parallel, RC charging and RLC AC circuits. It covers Electricity in Class 10 and Current Electricity and Alternating Current in Class 12 and JEE.

Also covers: circuit construction kit, series, parallel, kirchhoff, ammeter, voltmeter, rc circuit, rlc, ac circuit.

Frequently asked questions

Why are household appliances connected in parallel?

Each one gets the full mains voltage and can be switched on or off without affecting the others.

What is the time constant of an RC circuit?

τ = RC — the time for the capacitor to reach about 63% of the battery voltage.

What happens at resonance in an RLC circuit?

The inductor's and capacitor's reactances cancel, so the impedance is smallest and the current is largest.
